Each week MSNBC’s Your Business features experts to share their secrets for improving your business. This week, the minimum wage is being raised in Seattle. Under a new law passed by the city council, workers will be paid fifteen dollars an hour. One controversial part of the legislation involves franchises. They’re not classified as small businesses, and so they’re required to start paying the new minimum ways in about half the time as other businesses of a similar size. Stephen Caldeira, President and CEO of the International Franchise Association, and Makini Howell, the owner of Seattle’s Plum Restaurants, debate the effects of this law.
